SHOWING WITHOUT GOING

Technology / Working in new sectors

How as artists can we draw on sectors which may be new to us such as gaming, film, television, online platforms, VR etc, without losing track of the central reason(s) for making live work? How can we dabble in technical formats like these that usually have a heavy visual focus and often perhaps a penchant for ‘slick’ production values, while still answering the question “What can we achieve with liveness that is impossible with any other form?” To what extent do we allow ourselves to transgress in this new territory? What role does technology play in the art work? Is it chosen ‘by’ the work because it can serve best what the work wants to do, or the other way round that the technology becomes the master, using the work only to showcase what the technology can do?
