Nightwalks with Teenagers is a walking performance created in by young people. They have planned and designed this walk through the city at night to share their stories and their favourite parts of the neighbourhood. The project brings together teens and adults who might not otherwise meet, to have experiences related to a shared place and time; it offers an opportunity for adults to socialize with young people in a safe social space, where everyone can let loose, and silences offer moments for contemplation. Potentially, the work could be made with distant guidance of Mammalian Diving Reflex collective.

Approaches

Some performances, structures or scripts can be adapted and restaged anew in different spatial and social contexts by local teams. This kind of work promotes the touring of ideas and concepts rather than actors and sets. It can be presented in any number of different spaces, involve audience members as co-creators and performers, and will often imply a different level of work for local teams.

Key to this approach is an effective transmission of information which may involve a careful devising of rules, protocols or scripts.

Approaches

The art of walking has a rich history in relation to the creative process, through guided participation, or as solo walks, with routes variously planned or improvised following intuition. Walking can be part of a creative process or the event itself of a performance where the walkers are various combinations of performers and audience members.
